Mam Rock N' Roll Silicone Pacifier and Pacifier Clip, 6 Months, 2 Pack, Colors May Vary

Buy Cheap Mam Rock N' Roll Silicone Pacifier and Pacifier Clip, 6 Months, 2 Pack, Colors May Vary at Amazon.com Order New!

Around 4 months our now 6 month old chose the Mam pacifiers as his favorite and we have been very pleased with them. They seem to be very well made and sturdy. I really like that they offer different sizes that correspond to the age of the child. He started off with the smaller size, but the six month size has been his favorite for a couple of months now.
The clip that comes with the set is pretty good as well. It holds onto the pacifier very well, and holds onto his clothes pretty well. I like that the part that clips to his clothes is made of plastic (rather than metal like others) so it is not likely to pinch fingers or skin on accident-- but the plastic does make it a little less sturdy so it can be pulled off easily even by little hands. This is really not a big deal, but worth thinking about. Also, the cord is not super long-- which I like, but you do have to clip it higher up on baby so that it will reach his mouth, especially when he is asleep in the crib.
All in all we have been very satisfied and I have bought additional "back up" sets. The selection of colors/patterns on Amazon wasn't as good as other places, but the price is competitive so it was a good deal. If your baby likes these pacifiers, I recommend them.you can get them cheapest at Amazon through this link here.

10 Tips to Get a 9 Month Old Baby on a Feeding Schedule

Starting solid food to babies is a big milestone for both parent and a baby. Before introducing solid foods to babies parents should make sure that their baby is ready for solid foods or not. Solid foods can be started between 4 and 6 months of age, depending on pediatricians recommendation some babies are simply not ready for solid foods as early as others.

Read below some baby care tips for meals to be given to 9 month old baby

1. Oatmeal: Start your baby breakfast with some unsweetened oats. Make it with breast milk, formula, water, or even juice. To make it more delicious mix some banana slices or home-steamed fruit, such as pears or apples.
2. Pancakes /waffles: Try to use a pancakes/ waffles which contain whole-grain mix. Add just a bit of wheat germ for a health boost. You can top with pureed fruit but avoid sugary and syrups.
3. Eggs: Only serve yolks to your baby as whites are an allergen for baby. Add a tablespoon of cottage cheese and scramble. For some good taste turn eggs into a lunch by mixing in mashed tofu or a softened vegetable and serve to your baby
4. Grilled cheese: Use whole-wheat bread, shredded cheese that melts easily, with a little butter. Cut the sandwich into bites before serving to your baby. Try using two cheeses, such as cheddar and mozzarella, or adding a thinly sliced avocado this gives a good taste.
5. Yogurt: Give unsweetened yogurt to babies for flavor; add jarred or home-steamed fresh fruit. For some assortment stirring it in wheat germ and combining several fruits for new tastes.
6. Sandwich: Avoid peanut butter on a sandwich which is an allergen. Use very soft bread and cut off the crusts before making sandwich for your baby. You can try cooked egg yolks, avocado, hummus, and cream cheese as middle ingredients in sandwiches.
7. Soup: Make soup with soft veggies and noodles. For some assortment, add mashed beans, well-shredded meats, or shredded cheese to your baby soup.
8. Macaroni and cheese: Make it from scratch toss the soft, whole-wheat noodles cooked in broth with butter and shredded cheese. For some assortment, stir in pureed green vegetables, such as peas, spinach, or broccoli, or mix with mashed beans or shredded meat and serve to your baby.
9. Baked potato: Remove the potato from its skin and mash in butter, cheese, and soft veggies. You can put it through a mini food processor with veggies, cheese, butter, and broth. For some good taste, try a mix of sweet and white potatoes, or mash in tofu, meats, and beans before serving it to your baby.
10. Pasta/Rice/: Before giving pasta/rice to babies run it through a mini food processor with a sauce. Add cooked veggies, such as zucchini and squash or well-shredded meats for some assortment.

Developmental Milestones 12 to 18 Month of Age

Babies develop at all different rates but here's what to look for from 12 to 18 months of age.

At 12 months of age your baby starts to transition into toddler hood. As she becomes more active, her baby fat melts away and she begins to lose her baby features.

She understands much more than she can express and learns new words daily. That is why it is important to talk to her about everything, describe to her what you see and hear, as well as read to her daily. At this age, your toddler starts to use gestures to express what she thinks and feels. For example, she may take your hand, lead you to the kitchen, and point to the fridge and say "milk."

By about 12 months of age, children can follow a one-step command, such as "go get your toy." By 18 months, children should be able to follow more complex instructions consisting of 2 or 3 steps. At this time, children begin to engage in pretend play. They imitate their caregivers and by doing so, learn new skills. For example, you may notice your child pretending to vacuum or sweep one day.

At this time of development, your child starts to use tools, such as a spoon or toothbrush. She also begins to understand symbols and ideas. For example, while brushing her teeth, your child may pretend that the toothbrush becomes an airplane. Pretend play is a major developmental milestone. It allows your child to develop creativity and other intellectual skills.

You can enhance your child's development by doing the following activities:

- Read daily

- Encourage to use words and gestures to communicate

- Play games that provide instructions

- Provide toys that represent objects in your child's environment, such as a broom or vacuum cleaner. You probably already noticed that you toddler is active and ready to explore from the time she wakes up until bedtime (perhaps with a short break for a nap). Toddlers' motor skills advance exponentially. They walk, jump, and run in their quest to be independent. Keep in mind that they lack judgment skills, therefore they need a safe environment to pursue their discoveries.

At this age, you child should reach the following milestones:

- Learn new words daily

- Build 2-word sentences by age 2

- Understand 1-step commands by 12 months

- Understand 2- and 3-step commands by 18 months

- Use spoon

- Engage in pretend play

- Imitate caregivers

- Point to things

New Study - Fans Reduce Sudden Infant Death Risk by 72%

SIDS, or Sudden Infant Death Syndrome, is one of the most horrible and heartbreaking losses a family can endure. Striking an otherwise healthy baby of between 1 month and one year old, SIDS is the diagnosis given when a child of this age dies suddenly and an exact cause can't be found even after a full medical and legal investigation. And while amazing strides have been made in cutting the risk of SIDS, about 2,500 infants continue to die suddenly in the United States each year.

For these parents it is the worst kind of pain... a living nightmare you don't wish on your worst enemy. It hurts every minute of every day of the rest of your life.

These parents can take some small comfort knowing that investigations into exactly what causes SIDS are moving forward. There is a lot of good work being done. Many experts are coming to believe the condition involves an underlying abnormality (like a brain defect that affects breathing) combined with sleeping in an unsafe position or being exposed to an environmental challenge during a key period of growth.

Other things we do know:

- SIDS is most common in babies 2 to 4 months old.
- 90% of SIDS cases happen in babies less than 6 months old.
- 20% of SIDS deaths happen in childcare settings.
- SIDS is more common in cold weather.
- SIDS happens more often during sleep, between the hours of 10:00 pm and 10:00 am

Researchers in California at the Kaiser Permanente Division of Research found that babies who slept in a room with a fan running had a 72% lower risk of SIDS compared to those who slept without a fan. Opening a window, another way to circulate the air in the sleeping space, brought the risk of SIDS down 36%. The study appears in the October issue of the Archives of Pediatric & Adolescent Medicine and is the first to look for an association between better air circulation and reduced risk of SIDS.

Financed by the National Institutes of Health, this research involved data on 185 babies who died of SIDS from 1997 to 2000 in ten Northern California counties as well as Los Angeles County. The SIDS babies were compared to 312 infants who were a match in age, socio economic status and ethnic backgrounds in those same counties.

Dr. De-Kun Li, study senior author said, "The baby's sleeping environment really matters. This seems to suggest that by improving room ventilation we can further reduce risk."

The researchers noted that using a fan reduced the risk of SIDS most for babies in poor sleeping environments. Of course using a fan doesn't mean you should stop doing all the other very easy, sensible things the American Academy of Pediatrics recommends to prevent SIDS.

- Babies should always sleep on their backs.
- Firm mattresses should be the only sleeping surface - no waterbeds or air mattresses either.
- No thick quilts or comforters - being overheated during sleep puts your baby at risk.
- Pillows and stuffed toys should not be in the bed with babies.
- A dedicated sleeping space that's free of drafts and is of a comfortable, steady temperature.
- Don't smoke (or let anyone else smoke) around your baby.

More work is needed, but because the idea of circulating the air in a baby's room is in line with some Sudden Infant Death Syndrome theories, it's certainly worth a try. Fans are affordable, and offer another benefit, the sound offers a soothing setting for a baby to sleep, blocking out much of the other routine noise of the house. Good for you, perhaps life saving for your baby.

When Will Your Baby Sleep Through the Night?

Yes, it will. But you need to be patient.

Newborns sleep a lot: 16 or more hours a day, but often in stretches of just one to two hours, whether day or night. A more consistent sleep schedule, where most sleep happens during the night, will gradually develop as your baby's nervous system matures and as she is able to go longer between feedings, usually when she's around 2 months old.

Most experts agree that when babies are around 6 months old, they are capable of sleeping through the night, but you'll need to adjust your expectations: "sleeping through the night" at this age means 5-to-6-hour stretches, which may not be YOUR definition of "sleeping through the night."

At this point, and possibly earlier, there are several things you can do to encourage your baby to sleep for longer stretches during the night:

1. Create a clear distinction between day and night. During the day, expose your baby to lots of natural light. Play and talk with him and keep him active. Conversely, when he wakes up at night, keep the lights dim, care for him with minimal fuss and put him right back to sleep. This is a good way to teach your baby that daytime is for fun and interaction, and nighttime is for sleep.

2. Follow a consistent bedtime routine. When my kids were babies, we used to give them a warm bath each night. After their bath I used to nurse them, sing a lullaby and put them in their crib. Throughout this routine, lights were dim and we kept very quiet, signaling it was the end of the day and the beginning of the night. If you're consistent, your baby will lean to associate this routine with going to sleep.

3. Make sure the conditions in the nursery promote sleep. Baby bedding [http://www.tinytotties.com/] and your baby's pajamas should be soft and comfortable - never scratchy; the room should be relatively dark; and room temperature should be pleasantly cool - not too hot or too cold. Many parents keep the baby's room too hot, especially during the winter.

4. Place your baby in bed when she's drowsy, but awake. See if she falls asleep on her own. Let her fuss and whine a little if she needs to, but do go to her if she starts crying. Our own policy was that we never allowed our children to cry themselves to sleep, but this is of course a very personal decision.

5. During the night, if baby moves or stirs, don't rush to her right away. Sometimes babies move or makes noises, then go right back to sleep. Rushing to them and fussing over them encourages them to fully wake up and to view night as a chance to play and interact with you. Trust me, you do NOT want that to happen.

Most importantly, keep things in perspective! Those first few months of sleep deprivation are tough, but as someone who has survived it, I can tell you with confidence that you learn to manage and that your body does adjust to functioning on less sleep.

Sooner or later, almost all babies do sleep consistently through the night. Our children started sleeping for longer stretches (5 or 6 hours) when they were around nine months old. By the time they were two years old, and done with teething, they started sleeping consistently for 8-10 hours.

Remember that even when your child starts sleeping through the night, there will be many setbacks, especially when she is sick or scared. Sleep deprivation is part of parenting a young child, just like kissing their boo-boos and admiring their artwork. The calmer you are about it, the easier it will be for you to handle those sleepless nights.

Colic Remedies - 10 Easy Solutions

Colic is defined by its symptoms as opposed to a certain cause. Symptoms usually begin around 4 weeks of age and can last as long as 6 months or in rare cases longer. It is believed to affect 1 in 3 babies. Colic sometimes looks like there is abdominal pain and is frequently accompanied by gas. However, the gas is said to be a bi-product of swallowing air when crying. A baby is described as having colic if he or she has episodes of uncontrollable, inconsolable crying over three hours a day and at least three days a week. Colic and infant gas can be very frustrating and upsetting to both parents and baby.

Fortunately, you are not alone and there are ways to soothe your baby and possibly eliminate the symptoms.

Below you will find 10 easy solutions for infant colic and gas. Enjoy!

1. Food Allergies: Get familiar with high allergen foods such as Milk, Soy, Corn, Wheat, Nuts, etc. Most commercial baby foods contain at least one of these high allergen ingredients. Talk with your care provider if you suspect this to be an issue.

2. Infant Massage: Babies love to be massaged! It can also get gas moving out of the belly. It's relaxing and a great way to bond with your baby. If your unsure as to how to perform infant massage browse the Internet or book store. These days there is a lot of information on this topic.

3. White Noise: This is a favorite for many moms and can be very soothing to a fussy baby. Perhaps it reminds the of being in the womb with all the muffled noises. Pick up a white noise CD, place your baby near the dryer while its on or put her in a sling while you vacuum.

4. Nature: Sometimes separating your baby from her environment can help stop the crying. Your baby could very well be reacting to the energy that surrounds her and being outside in nature can be very grounding for both parents and baby. Sit with your baby in the grass or near a tree and smell some flowers together, you will be surprised how much this may help.

5. Wear Your Baby: A randomized controlled study reported in Pediatrics showed that baby wearing reduces crying and fussiness 43 percent overall and 51 percent at night. Baby wearing decreases the levels of stress hormones circulating in a baby's blood stream, resulting in a more relaxed, happy baby.

6. Light Pressure On Tummy: Placing your baby on her tummy throughout the day and pushing your baby's legs up against her belly can help to relieve gas.

7. Take A Look At You! We are beings of energy and our children are very in tune with the energy that surrounds them. Have you been stressed out or worried? Be sure to recognize and express your feelings and emotions. Remember to take some time out each day to let go of any negative thoughts or feelings before you get bottled up.

8. Warmth: Submerging your baby in a warm bath is extremely soothing, not only to the physical body but also the emotional body as well. Try this the next time your baby is getting fussy and see how it works for you.

9. Movement: For the first 9 months of life all babies know is movement and so this is very comforting for them when they are no longer living in the safe, comforting home they once knew. Take your baby for a drive in the car, a walk in the stroller, or little ride in a baby carrier.

10. Swaddling: Swaddle your baby up nice and tight they love it! Most younger babies like to be swaddled in a blanket with their arms tucked in while older babies sometimes prefer to have their arms out. There are lots of blankets out there that make it nice and easy to swaddle your baby quickly and with little effort.

Get creative, try different things and find what soothes your baby best! Getting support from family and other mothers is also very important. Be sure to check in with your care provider to make sure there is not a medical issue going on or an allergy. The best of luck to you and your family!

The Safe Sippy 2 Straw Bottle, Pink, 6 Months

Buy Cheap The Safe Sippy 2 Straw Bottle, Pink, 6 Months at Amazon.com Order New!

I was looking for a safe, BPA free sippy cup for my daughter. I really did not want to buy a plastic one (even if it was BPA free). And if it was a stainless steel one, I wanted one without a toxic liner (most stainless steel bottles have a plastic liner, including SIGG). So I went ahead and bought this sippy. My daughter really liked it but she wasn't able to drink from it herself. We had to pick it up/angle it up for her. So we started putting a straw through the drinking hole and she was able to drink from it without having to lift it up. This was about 6 months ago. Then, The Safe Sippy came out with this new design that has a built-in straw! I wonder if another parent wrote to them with the same situation as us. My daughter loves this new safe sippy with the straw even more than the older model. And we no longer have to change a disposable straw every day.

If this sippy cup is in your list of possible purchases, I'll give you some pros and cons so as to help you on your search for the perfect sippy.
PROS:
- Stainless steel durable construction
- No plastic liners
- Plastic parts are BPA free
- Straw makes is easy for little ones who don't lift up their bottles
- Convenient handle
- Easy grip silicone sleeve
- Bottle doesn't hold smells/tastes
- Comes with a cap
- Comes with a closed valve to prevent spills
CONS:
- It can spill, depending on the silicone valve you put on (comes with a closed one, an open open one, and one for the straw)
you can get them cheapest at Amazon through this link here.

The Safe Sippy 2 Straw Bottle, Pink, 6 Months Feature

The Safe Sippy 2 Straw Bottle, Pink, 6 Months Overview

Just like the original Safe Sippy with added features: Cover lid, travel no leak plug, and new straw adapter. With the straw adapter your child does not have to lift the cup to drink. Also has removable handles. Dishawasher safe. BPA free. Phthalate free. The straw adapter instantly turns your sippy cup into a straw cup. Blue or Pink.

Love Safe Sippy - S. Jones -
Our twins have used Safe Sippy since they were 11 months. Mom, Dad, and boys all love them. The Safe Sippy 2 is nice because it has the dust cover, solid travel plug, straw conversion, and the traditional sippy valve. My boys were confused by the the straw valve because they were so accustomed to tipping back their sippy. Not a problem, since they incluced a the traditional sippy valve also.

Two & a half stars - Mimi9000 -
I like these better than the old plastic sippy cups that I've had for my kids -- but backwash is an issue, even if the stopper is used. Eww! I have to check the beverages after each meal, and I usually have to throw out whatever it is they were drinking. The handles on the cup also broke in the dishwasher after a few weeks. Luckily my childis old enough that he doesn't need this. Interestingly, the cups don't leak when the stopper is used so i'm not sure what causes the backwash issue.

Overall, these cups are better than what I was using and I like that they're BPA free, but I won't be purchasing any more. Considering the price, there really shouldn't be any design flaws.

Losing Weight After Having a Baby

We all know that women are very concerned and conscious about their weight and how they look. However, there comes a time in a woman's life where she cannot help but gain weight - and this is the time when she is pregnant.

As the saying says pregnant women "eat for two." However, some women take this as an opportunity to eat more than what is optimal. This is why many pregnant women gain more weight than they should. The weight pregnant women may gain during pregnancy ranges from 25-35 pounds. After birth, about 13 pounds of the extra weight are taken off. But this still leaves about 12-22 pounds to deal with.

After giving birth, women should not engage in any vigorous and strenuous activities and exercises despite their desire to take off any unnecessary weight they have gained. A woman who has just delivered a baby needs time and rest in order for her body to recover its strength and former health. What women who have just given birth should do in order to prepare their bodies for weight loss is to eat foods with good protein and fiber such as eggs, yogurt, and whole grain breads.

She can also try eating in five small portions throughout the day. Fruits, whole grain breads, and nuts provide natural energy. New moms should also refrain from missing breakfast. Returning to a normal and healthy eating pattern will help jumpstart the metabolism. This is in preparation for the time a new mom can engage in high intensity exercises again.

Doctors usually recommend that new moms recuperate for three months before engaging in strenuous exercises. To lose some of the weight or fat before the three month period, a new mom can take up walking an strolling.

Diet is also important in weight loss after pregnancy. The right activities are just as important as the right food and nutrient intake. Eating small meals helps keep the energy up especially is the woman is breastfeeding. Junk food, fatty foods, and processed foods should be avoided as much as possible. New moms should eat lots of fruits and vegetables, low-dairy products, and whole grains - this is not only something to practice after pregnancy but also as a lifestyle as well.

New moms should be patient and determined in losing the weight after pregnancy as it is not that easy. The balance between the right diet, right activities, and the right amount of rest should be achieved. You should not get discourage and frustrated as this might lead you to eat more or overdo your exercises and this is not good for your health in the long run.

As in all things, prevention is better than cure. So if you are pregnant, you should take measures now so that you won't have a hard time after you give birth. Start eating the right foods - high in protein, calcium, and iron but low in fat. Also, drinking lots of fluid is very important. All people should stay hydrated, what more pregnant women? If you practice moderation, weight loss after giving birth will be relatively easy for you. You'll be back in shape in no time.

Welcome Home Baby Shower Party Celebrations

A welcome home baby shower is a shower that is held after the baby has been born. While this may not be a traditional way of celebrating the impending birth of a child, this is definitely a great way for people to get together who might not have been able to make it to the showers given before the baby is born. This is also a fun time for the new parents to introduce the newest member of their family and friends.

One thing to consider is that the parents might not want to have a welcome home baby shower until several weeks after the baby has been born. Getting acquainted with their new baby and adjusting to the new routine can be a bit overwhelming, particularly if these are brand new parents.

The shower usually is held about a month or two after the baby has been born, giving the parents time to adjust and attach to their baby. The great thing about welcome baby party is that the new mom can tell the host what they still need for the baby, such as diapers, etc. Plus having a shower will bring the family and friends together to spend some time with the new family.

When planning the welcome shower, sending the personalized welcome home baby shower invitations should be done within four weeks before the date of the party. It will be their schedule that the host will want to be sensitive to, with a new baby and his/her needs. Also indicate on the custom welcome home baby shower invitations that it is a "welcome home baby shower". Even if people attended their baby shower before the baby was born, they will see this as an opportunity to meet the baby.

Since this is not the traditional games are not necessarily something that needs to be planned. However, chances are the baby party will include other couples and their children. Organizing a party will most likely mirror setting up a family BBQ or backyard party. Ensure that the menu includes foods that will appeal to all ages, or at least have some kid specific dishes prepared.

Decorations for a party can include some balloons, if appropriate. The host should probably ask the new parents if they have any preferences, or dislikes. Remember, even though the baby is already here, this is a party for them and making the guests of honor feel welcome and important is key to a successful surprise shower.

Planning a welcome home baby shower will be a lot simpler than a traditional baby party as it will be a lot more relaxed. This is an opportune time for the parents to show off their baby and for those who have not met the baby to see him or her for the first time. When planning, don't forget the announcements and matching thank you cards as this will set the stage for a great party. Also ask the new parents of their preferences for food, date and time of day, as they now have a little one to take care of.

How to Teach your Baby to Fall Asleep

How do you teach your baby to fall asleep since you and your husband are sleep deprived wondering how long it will take before your little darling is sleeping through the night? Will it be 3 months, 5 months, 8 months, longer .... Well, I'm here to tell you that the sooner you teach your baby how to fall asleep on their own, the better off the whole family will be.

You can start as soon as week six or seven. Of course we can start off with the obvious reason. Mom and Dad get more sleep and the family is less cranky but teaching your baby to fall asleep on their own gives them so many benefits. First of all, they actually sleep better and longer because babies actually go through sleep cycles quicker than adults which they wake up many times through the night and in most cases when a baby knows where they are they are less likely to come to a complete waken state. Babies can sooth themselves back to sleep with a pacifier or the thumb. Mine were both thumb suckers. Second, I found by teaching them to fall asleep at their nap times through the day, they actually slept longer through the night. This gives them a more restful sleep and your baby is happier and more likely to eat better too. Third, and more importantly, it is so much healthier for your baby. We all know that babies grow while they sleep, plus it teaches them independence.

I know what your thinking, how do I teach my baby how to fall asleep on their own? I always started teaching my babies during their naps through the day. I used the three hour rule; when they wake up feed them, play with them and keep them up from the time they got up to their next scheduled nap for three hours. It might be challenging for babies six or seven weeks old, so try keeping them up for 2 1/2 hours. When the time is up and it's nap time, place them in their crib or cradle (on their backs) and gently talk in a soothing voice, stay with them for a couple seconds and walk away. Don't walk too far because you will need to walk in every couple minutes to let them know that your there but it is nap time so do not pick them up. Eventually they will cry themselves to sleep because we all know crying can be exhausting. Stick to this routine day by day and you will see your baby falling a sleep by themselves within a week. If you stick to this eventually your baby won't cry at nap time. They will know it's nap time and go to sleep. Another thing that I mentioned is your baby will be sleeping through the night sooner than later too. I know that this will tug on your heart strings and you absolutely need a good dose of patience but you will find that your baby will be on a great schedule which will allow you to work your business during naps and give you more free time to do the things you enjoy. It will truly be a win win for the entire family!

Baby Sleep Patterns - 5 Common Mistakes

Getting a good night's sleep can be challenging when a new baby enters the picture. It's important that infants get the sleep that they need and it's even more important for mom and dad to get their sleep. After all, a well-rested parent will be much more effective than one who is sleep-deprived.

It may surprise you that not all 'research' on baby sleep patterns can be trusted. Many studies, in fact, allow cultural factors to overrule biological laws of nature.

Your baby, however, will be certain to let you know what works and what doesn't. Trust your child's own mechanisms for informing you.

Let's review some of the most common mistakes parents make:

1) Ignoring Your Child's Cries

One should never ignore a baby's cries. The child could be hurt or in danger. In addition, babies are emotional creatures. They will not understand why their cries are going unanswered.

Babies are unable to say, "I'm tired," or "I'm hungry." Just imagine how easy things would be if they could! Instead we are left to take our best guess at the reason. You can be sure that baby is crying because they cannot solve the problem on their own and they need help.

2) Let Babies "Cry It Out"

Many experts seem to think that babies are able to soothe themselves to sleep. While this may be true to some extent, it is very unhealthy for the child. It teaches them that their parents cannot be trusted to solve their problems and could cause self-esteem issues later in life if they being to feel abandoned.

Your child must learn that you will respond to their needs quickly and efficiently. If you think that your child is just being fussy, try to evaluate the situation and make your response quick and to the point. You should always respond to their needs, however.

3) "How to Get Baby to Sleep Through the Night??"

Believe it or not, babies are simply not designed to sleep through the night. Infants need to feed several times a night. They simply will not acclimate to adult sleeping patterns. If they do, it is unhealthy and could be a sign of a larger problem.

Babies should have several short periods of sleep throughout the night. As you become familiar with your child's pattern, you can adapt. If you are married, perhaps you can take turns, provided that mom isn't breast-feeding. Even so, a well-placed bottle every now and then could help the child adapt to change.

4) Giving Baby Medicine to Help with Sleep

I am often surprised at how many parents give their baby Phenobarbital to aid with sleep, or worse, Valium. These drugs alter the brain's chemistry and will become addictive very quickly. The same holds true for alcohol. Never rub alcohol on a baby's gums as it could have the opposite effect...restlessness and agitation.

More importantly, these types of remedies are simply inappropriate for infants.

5) Adjust Feeding Time to "Train" Babies to Sleep

Your baby will tell you when it's time to eat. You should never try to adjust this schedule. The American Academy of Pediatrics is quite concerned about the rise in "parent-directed feeding schemes as alleged methods of training infants and children to sleep through the night".

Again, baby will tell you when it's time to eat. They might not even need to eat but rather they could need comforting, or a feeling of safety. As stated in numbers one and two, always attend to your child's needs quickly.

To summarize, baby sleep patterns are often difficult to figure out in the beginning and will take their toll initially. It is challenging, but a happy, healthy baby is worth the price you may pay over the first several months of life.

Strange Facts About Babies And Parenting

Did You Know:

Men are officially the best at changing baby! Research shows that the average time taken by a woman to change baby is 2 minutes and 5 seconds, whereas the average man takes 1 minute and 36 seconds! Expert in male and female behaviour Corinne Sweet says 'Changing baby is essentially a mechanical process, men approach it like a pit stop; they want it over as quickly as possible'. So come on guys, you're the experts!!

Eating fish during pregnancy can boost your baby's brain development and give him better communication and language skills. A study of 7000 mothers found that those who ate fish at least once per week had babies who scored higher in verbal skills at 15 months than those whose mothers ate no fish.

The father's sperm will decide the sex of your baby. The mother's eggs contain only a female or X chromosome, but a man's contains either an X (which makes a girl) or Y chromosome (which makes a boy). Whichever one reaches the egg first and fertilises it will determine the sex.

Air fresheners may cause diarrhoea and earache in babies say scientists. They found that infants in homes where air fresheners and aerosols were used every day were 32% more likely to suffer from stomach and ear complaints.

One in five toddlers can open medicine and chemical bottles with child-resistant tops experts are warning. Every year thousands of toddlers are taken to hospital having swallowed substances ranging from perfume, painkillers and household cleaning products. The Child Accident Prevention Trust advises parents to store all medicines high up and well out of reach and sight; never assume that a child cannot open a product with a child-resistant lid; and never leave pills or drugs in a handbag - a favorite place for a toddler to search.

Overweight children are up to 5 times more likely to have a heart attack or stroke before the age of 65. So if you're overfeeding your 'little' one, you could be killing him with kindness.

Will your baby be left or right-handed? It's decided as early as 10 weeks gestation say researchers who found that babies in the womb favor one hand over the other, the same one they'll prefer to use in life.
