The first month has passed and you are headed for the second month with your baby. In the first month, you would have noticed a lot of things that your child can and cannot do. This would have included recognizing mummy's voice, staring at bright colors and dependence upon you to hold up his or her head.
In the second month, you can also look forward to several new things that will both amaze and please you and a few of these things are as follow.
Role in one Direction
Around this time you will find that your child is moving his or her body a little bit more. So much more that he or she may role over into one direction. You may place him/her in one position and when you return you may find the baby in another position. Therefore, a little bit more care will be needed as to where you place your little one to rest.
Lift Head a Little
Even though your baby will still depend on you for help in supporting his/her head, when you place him/her on the tummy (belly), he or she will lift the head a little. This is a milestone in you child's life because not only does this speaks of the growing strength of the baby, but this also speaks of his/her step into self-independence of the body.
Less Twitching
When your little one was born, you would have found that he/she twitches consistently. That is, there was no control over his/her hands and feet. Well, even though this month will not bring an end of this, you will find that it is happening a little less and eventually ceases as the muscles relax.

A mother-to-be derives great enjoyment out of getting the layette ready. But, pleasant as it is, the monetary cost, the laundering time, and the effort of actually putting clothes on the baby must also be kept in mind.
Diapers are the only form of clothing that need to be bought in quantity. Babies grow quickly in the first months, and their needs constantly change. When shopping for the layette, keep the following in mind: (1) clothing should have growing space; (2) garments should be easy to launder; (3) all items should be safe and comfortable for the baby to wear or use; and (4) garments should be simple enough to take a minimum of time to dress and undress the infant.
Trendy clothes for tots may look cute on dolls, but are often impractical for real, live babies, who loathe being dressed and undressed and express their exasperation by crying loudly and angrily. A crying baby is rigid and uncooperative, as the parent fumbling with buttons and ribbons soon discovers. It is well worth searching for clothing that is secured with snap fasteners rather than that which must be pulled and tugged over the baby's head. Infant clothes should be loose and easy to slip on and off. In addition, older babies will try to chew on buttons, so snaps are much safer.
The newborn baby's tender skin is easily irritated by the starchy substance in new materials. It is wise to launder all clothing, diapers, wrapping blankets, or similar articles that will touch the baby's skin before they are used. Use mild soapsuds in warm water for washing clothes the first time and make sure that all the soap is thoroughly rinsed.
It is also wise to remove all labels from inside the garments. Labels can irritate a baby's sensitive skin.
The most important article in the baby's layette is the diaper. The choice is wide. A new parent should consider the following:
(1) If a diaper service is available, does it also provide the diapers? Is the price reasonable?
(2) Disposables are of course convenient for traveling, but are not as absorbent as cloth diapers. Is there enough storage for the large quantities needed?
(3) Is there time enough for a parent to launder and sterilize diapers?
Remember, the diaper service has to be arranged before the baby's birth.
When laundering diapers, do not use harsh detergents; many parents prefer to use mild soapsuds. Even more important, it is essential to rinse diapers thoroughly after laundering to prevent irritation of the baby's skin.

There are so many things you have to remember in the first couple of years of your infants life. Baby vaccinations are no exception. Without the proper immunizations, your baby can be susceptible to a number of health conditions that we, as adults often take for granted. Vaccinations against: polio, pneumonia, measles, hep B, mumps, measles, etc -- are very important to make sure they're protected. Many of which only have to be administered once, then forgotten about for the rest of their lives.
Immunization Schedule
First 2 Months
*Hepatitis B, diphtheria, tetanus, polio, PCV, pertussis.
Month 4
*Diphtheria, tetanus, polio, PCV (same as first baby vaccinations).
Month 6
*Same as month 4, along with another Hep B immunization.
Month 12
*HIB, chicken pox, MMR, PCV
Month 12-15
*Diphtheria, tetanus, pertussis and any other vaccinations recommended by your doctor/pediatrician.
Don't Be Overwhelmed
This can all seem like a lot of baby vaccinations to put your infant through, but doing each of these immunizations on schedule will protect your infant for a lifetime. There of course will be other shots required at certain points in their lives, for a variety of ailments depending on the area you live and what viruses may show up at your child's daycare/schools.
Many diseases that used to be common-place such as polio, chicken pox and diphtheria -- are rarely even spoken of anymore because of proper immunization done in the first 18 months of a person's life. By no means will baby vaccinations eliminate these infections entirely, but for the most part, few children will ever have to deal with them if you adhere to the outlined immunization schedule.
(Please Note: Most doctors, pediatricians and other healthcare providers will inform you of these needed visits ahead of time, along with any others that may pertain to the area you live in, or any cultural/race related illnesses that pertain to your baby.)

Imagine being able to talk to your baby before most parents even consider the possibility of understanding what their babies needs are completely.
The tears and frustration from both you and your baby would be eliminated drastically and instead would be replaced with understanding and patience. How nice would that be?
Even though babies around 6 months and even earlier cannot talk, they still have the ability to communicate their needs and wants through communication. Because they are frustrated they normally cry and scream to get their point across but there is an easier way for them to make their point and make it specific to something as well.
They can use sign language.
Many parents of hearing children are beginning to use sign language with their babies at an early age. Babies are ready and willing to learn these signs and will soak in the information that you give them.
You can teach them to express all sorts of emotions, needs, and interests including such things as wanting milk, feeling hungry, feeling tired, interest in a ball, interest in a light and so on and so forth.
A lot of people worry that by teaching their babies sign language it will hinder their speech in some way but research has shown that babies who know sign speak earlier, become better readers and have higher IQ's then their peers.
When you are teaching specific signs to your baby you are not only doing the sign. You are also speaking it to them and using it at relevant times to the sign itself. So if they have gone or are going to the bathroom in their diaper and you use the sign for toilet then they are going to associate the sign for toilet with going to the bathroom in their diaper.
If you are breast feeding them or giving them a bottle of milk and do the sign for milk each time this happens then they will associate the sign for milk with drinking milk.
Your baby is constantly using their eyes to see what you are doing, what's going on in front of them, and what's going on around them. They are ready participants when it comes to sign language. So for example after you've taught them the sign for light, whenever they see a light and want to show you it they can use the sign for light to show you what they are checking out and fascinated with at the moment.

What could be more joyous than see that you have delivered a healthy and bouncing baby? You carry him/her for 9 months and take safety precautions at all times so as to ensure the baby's health. More to that, you eat the right kinds of foods and eat more than your average diet because you do need to satisfy your constantly hungry belly. But once birth has come, one concern mothers typically think about is how to lose weight and get their pre-pregnancy figure back.
Losing weight after pregnancy is not that hard for many mothers. Since immediately following the delivery, women lose about twelve pounds which corresponds to the weight of the baby, placenta, amniotic fluid and blood. Next in the following weeks another five pounds is dropped by losing the excess water. But on the long term basis, women actually lose weight fast through breastfeeding.
Breastfeeding is the feeding of a newly born baby or young child with breast milk directly from female human breasts. It is highly proven that breast milk is the healthiest form of milk for infants. Mostly, mothers breastfeed their babies for six months or more, recognizing the greater beneficial effects of it. Health benefits to babies include greater immune health, fewer infections, less tendency to develop allergies, protection from sudden infant death syndrome, higher intelligence and other long term health effects.
Along with the health benefits breastfeeding provides the child, it also significantly presents benefits to the feeding mother and one very notable effect is quick weight loss. After the first month, women who breastfeed can expect a drop of about one to two pounds each month.
This weight loss becomes steady while nursing because the process of lactation (milk production) uses the extra body fat that was stored during pregnancy. Every time the mother feed the baby, her body promotes lactation with about 500 calories from stored fats. With this, breastfeeding women can lose weight sooner and get to their pre-pregnancy figure after the first three months.
However, mothers should also take precaution not to overly carry out weight loss plans while breastfeeding because of their desire to rapidly get back in shape. Reducing calorie intake can diminish milk production and may bring to halt the breastfeeding goal. As much as the mothers should eat well during pregnancy, they should also continue eating healthy while breastfeeding to satisfy the amount of nutrients she and the baby need.
In addition, regular physical exercises along with healthy diet contribute in steady and more permanent weight reduction. Instead of planning to adhere in extra dieting measures, just keep in mind that breastfeeding provides natural healthy weight loss. It is already nature's way to make the moms reduce a considerable two pounds each month after delivery.
