As my little one grows up I'm always looking for new ways to keep her development moving. Here is a list of some games you can play from 3 to 6 months of age.

1. A piece of glass separates me from my best friend. around 4 or 5 months she was really looking at things and smiling at things so my wife found out something fun. Find a big mirror that you can stand in front of while holding baby. I would move her close enough until she would catch a glimpse of herself. She would immediately light up and start cooing and giggling. To this day this is our pre-bath routine. As she got older I would change distances to help keep her eyes exercised.

2. Help me name that. An adaptation to the baby eye-spy we played when she was younger was this game. Once she could reach out and touch things I would encourage her to touch things while I named it. Sometimes I think she got it other times she'd look at me and just grin. Again, this is another game we continue to play.

3. I must be butter cause I'm on a roll! Once she was used to being on her belly on the floor I'd get down and play with her. I'd put toys that were just out of her reach and have her try and get them. If she did happen to roll over or get the toy somehow I would get real excited and tell her how good she is and how big she is. As time progressed she loved the excitment I'd give her and she would do it much faster.

4. ABs of steel. She always was trying to sit up and see things when she developed her baby muscles. In an attempt to encourage this and help grow her muscles we would have her hold our fingers as she sat up. At first we had to pull her up to look around. As she got older and stronger she would pull up while holding on. At this point she just sits right up by herself. This helped to encourage her to be curious and to build some core body muscles.

5. If your happy and you know it. Around 3 months we really got into using her arms and legs when we sung songs. We would play 'this little piggy', 'patty cakes', & 'if your happy and you know it'. We would either clap her hands or her feet to the beat and sing to her. At first we got the craziest look. As she learned to like it she would get the biggest grin. Another thing that I would do is play a pop or rock song and have her be my little 'drummer'. I'd sit her on my lap facing away from me and take her hands and have her 'play the drums'. She would giggle and giggle.

We still play a few of the games from when she was younger but alot of them we've adapted to either be more physical, vocal, or visual. Also, make sure you're always talking to your baby. No matter where we are I'm having a conversation with her. Telling her about my day, asking her about hers, or reading things to her. The most entertaining is when we are shopping at the grocery. She loves hearing the nutritional facts of foods. Go figure.

Kids remain indoors for long periods of time during rainy days. The fact that we cannot, as usual, step outside to play could and usually does make them feel bored. However, you can help by suggesting some useful activities indoor.

Indoor activities for babies up to three months:

Activity 1:

Soon after birth a baby does have vision however not as advanced as an adult. Their sight is above 30 times less efficient than the average adult. As with all senses a baby's vision will see maximum improvement when the eyes are exercised to the fullest.

In this exercise our goals are

a. Refined hand eye co-ordination.

b. Grasping and reflex exercises

c. Muscle co-ordination.

For these exercises we will need to have three types of rattles at hand. Every baby enjoys his or her rattle. When you use a variety of colors, shapes and sizes for the rattles it is more interesting for a child. Get the child's visual attention by moving the rattle from a short distance. Here it is important to remember that a baby's eye focus best at 8 to 10 inches. Once the child's gaze is fixed on the rattle you could move it slowly from one side of the baby's head to the other. As the baby tries to grab the rattle it develops hand eye co-ordination and our other goals as well.

After you have completed the exercise once you can make things more interesting by using different rattle. Make sure you reward the child with encouraging words when he or she finally grabs the rattle. Remember that the bay cannot see your facial expressions unless you are 8 to 10 inches away.

Activity 2:

Communication is an important part of an infant's life, and the child begins communicating with grunts and smiles initially, and moving on to higher forms with every passing week. The closest people to the child will form his or her communication patterns.

Our goal in this exercise is

a. Development of hearing

b. The practical application of communication

You would need a rocking chair for this exercise.

Place yourself on the rocking chair with your baby in your arms, and make sure you are facing a door or window. Make sure you and your baby are both facing the same direction, maybe looking out to your porch or backyard. Start talking to your child about all you see outside. Talk about the tree if you see one, mention the word 'BIRD' if you here on tweeting. Mention the dog that's walking away or running around, and so on.

Doing this on a repetitive schedule will teach your child the names of things around him or her, and thereby encourage communication. The rocking chair is important, because it relaxes the child, while you yourself are facing the same view as him or her.

Now that my little one is 9 months old I did some research to see if she was in the norm for her age and her sleep patterns.

Typically we put her to bed at around nine o'clock everynight and she typically will sleep till 9 the next morning if we don't wake her. Since me and my wife work through the week we wake her up around seven in the morning. So, a typical evening sleep routine is 10 hours.

Her naps are a little different and depends alot on her mood, appetite, and surroundings. In an ideal setting she'll have two to three naps a day averaging about an hour to an hour and a half a piece. There are some days that she sleeps longer and others where she gets in little power naps.

With knowing her pattern I did some research and found that the typical 9-12 month old should be sleeping anywhere between 10-14 hours at night. Also, they should be having at least 2 naps a day averaging an hour or more. The biggest hurdle that most parents have (especially those who breast feed) is night time feedings. There are some techniques that one can use to help wean your little one off of the bottle or breast at night. I'll cover these in a future article.

Also, from personal experience you have to balance keeping a calm atmosphere that is conducive to your baby sleeping and not putting too large a damper on your daily activities. When she was a newborn we always walked on egg shells around the house. It made for some very painful naps when the slightest noise happened. At the guidance of my wife we made the commitment to slowly re-conform to our older day time habits while getting her to sleep. At first we had to do the 'no-no' things like letting her sleep on us or using a bottle to put her to sleep. As we weaned her off these things she's grown into a pretty heavy sleeper. A perfect case in point happened in september. We took her to the county fair and she slept through the whole demolition derby! So don't let anyone tell you that your baby has to sleep in perfect silence!

Infants can teach us a valuable lesson. They never give up; they continue to persevere despite their continuous failures. We have ALL persevered or we would not be as developed as we are today. Would we all be able to walk if we gave up after every fall? Baby steps can be used in all areas of our lives including methods to live a longer, healthier, prosperous life. This includes, of course, acne.

I have been talking with a lady who has large cysts on her face. We discussed her daily routine and I discovered she lives a sedentary life style. I recommended starting with a 20 minute daily walk. When 20 minutes becomes routine, she can increase her work-outs to 30 minutes walks and eventually to a jog.

The idea here is to have her get into the habit of exercising. When you go 2 months without any physical activity, working out intensely for an hour probably does not seem too fun. But, a simple 20 minute walk would be a breeze.

If are in this situation and are able to get right up and workout intensely then go for it. But, most of us will have to go back in time to our first days of living in this world and begin with baby steps. And, of course, this is perfectly fine as I am actually recommending it. I take baby steps myself in many areas of my life and find greater success when doing so.

Exercise reduces stress and boosts your self esteem. Baby steps towards a more active life style may lead to a path of clearer skin.

Diet is another aspect of life where baby steps could be applied. I try my best to live health conscious life. Learning that dairy leads to acne and that all acne sufferers should avoid it, I have reduced my intake little by little.

I also know that gluten and/or wheat is highly inflammatory and thus can lead to acne. Decreasing my intake has been difficult since wheat is pretty much a staple in the western diet. But, with baby steps, I have reduced my consumption of gluten and wheat by more than 80% in just a few months.

In addition, I began to drink green smoothies. At first, the taste was repulsive, but I persevered and got through the first and second. Little by little I added more greens until my smoothies contained nearly 25% of fresh greens.

As these are only examples, baby steps can be applied to all aspects of your life. Take anything you want to accomplish and start at the beginning, with baby steps. If you want clear skin it is important to be patient and to do everything in small steps. This will make it a fun journey too.
